Our comprehensive qualification structure provides a clear progression path from awareness to advanced diagnostic skills, ensuring technicians at every level can work safely and competently with electric and hybrid vehicles.
Level 1: Awareness
Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Awareness (5 hours) - Foundation knowledge for all staff working around electric vehicles
Level 2: Maintenance
Routine Maintenance Activities (14 hours) and Hazard Management for Emergency Personnel (13 hours)
Level 3: Repair
System Repair and Replacement (34 hours total) - Working with high voltage components
Level 4: Diagnosis
Fault Diagnosis, Testing and Repair (33 hours) - Advanced live high voltage system work

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for learners in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups with an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely within the automotive retail industry as it continues to see an increase in electric and hybrid vehicles entering the workplace.
It provides learners with an introduction to the knowledge of safe working practices, the dangers surrounding and the precautions required to avoid potential injury when near electric and hybrid vehicles.

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for learners in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups with an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely when carrying out routine maintenance activities on electric and hybrid vehicles.
It is designed for vehicle maintenance and repair technicians who may encounter electric and hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.
What will the learner study?
The content has been designed to give learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on electric and hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out routine maintenance and repair activities (not voltage components or systems).

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for learners in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups with an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely around electric and hybrid vehicles during emergency and recovery situations.
It is designed for those who may encounter accident damaged or broken down electric and hybrid vehicles, including:
  • Emergency services
  • Roadside recovery operators
It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle that may have or had damage to its high energy/electrical system.

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for maintenance and repair technicians in the 16-18 and 19+ age groups with an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric and hybrid vehicle high voltage systems.
It is designed for those who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation and contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.
What will the learner study?
This qualification contains two mandatory units: EV2.2 and EV3. Unit EV2.2 covers all of the skills and knowledge from Level 2 Award in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Routine Maintenance Activities.

Level 4 Award in Fault Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components

Who is this qualification for?
This award is designed for learners who maintain and repair electric/hybrid vehicles with the knowledge and skills required to work on live high voltage vehicle electrical components and associated systems. It demonstrates, in a practical way, their knowledge of high voltage diagnostic, testing and repair procedures.
Entry Requirements
The unit can only be undertaken after successful completion of Unit EV3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement and a recommended minimum of 6 months, or by completing the Learner Eligibility Form providing evidence of related/relevant experience.
Note: This unit does not cover commercial or domestic electrical installations including charging equipment and cables.

About This Qualification
This qualification contains the knowledge of the dangers surrounding repairs carried out to live high voltage vehicle electrical components and systems. The purpose and aim is to provide technicians working on electric/hybrid vehicles with the required level of skills and knowledge to carry out repairs on live high voltage vehicle electrical components and systems safely.
This qualification has been developed by IMI in conjunction with electric vehicle manufacturers, the Health and Safety Executive, training providers and the IMI Sector Skills Council. It is the first qualification to address live electric vehicle (high voltage) technology and is essential to ensure the health and safety of individuals working with live high voltage vehicle electrical components and systems.
This qualification is an official entry route into our TechSafeâ„¢ recognition, which will allow you to gain your place on our Professional Register and show the automotive community that you are competent in your role and up to date with the latest technology and knowledge.
